ULMS HEADS FOR THE HILL
June 29, 2007
(Rew, PA)
The United Late Model Series will bring the super dirt late models back to the HILL RACEWAY (former, Bradford Speedway) for the first dirt late model event in over ten years. The ULMS super stars will run the NORTHERN TIER 40 and the winner will pocket a cool $2000 for their visit to the old ¼ mile oval on Sunday, July 15.
“I am excited about going to the Hill Raceway and bring back the super late models,†stated ULMS Director, Chris Zuver. The interest has been very overwhelming for this event by both the fans and drivers. Track operators, Doyle Harris and Matt Gleason have worked hard since last year in helping turn the old track around and they had a very successful 2006 season.
Fans get to see the late models on the local tracks but never on track the size of the HILL. The tight ¼ mile oval should provide lot of action for the fans and the drivers. David Scott will lead the ULMS contingent to the HILL Raceway as he has swept both of the first two events on the ULMS schedule. Rookie of Year candidate, Mike Knight will be making his first visit to The HILL also. Also expected to make first time visits are Chris Farrell, Bob McMillen and Ed Connor. Veteran drivers such as Bob Close, Al Brewer, Rick Isadore, Miles Stitzinger, Jeff Hoffman, Todd Andrews and Ward Schell are the only handful of drivers that have competed at the HILL Raceway when it was called Bradford Speedway when late models were the top billing class in the 1980s.
ULMS fan friendly race procedures will be in place. Drivers will draw for their qualifying heat positions and the top qualified cars will redraw for the starting positions in the Northern Tier 40. The event will be under ULMS rules with, ULMS and McKean County Raceway flagman, Tony VanPelt in the starters stand.
Also, the management of The HILL Raceway is in the process of inviting many of the past stars of the tracks history to attend for a Hill Raceway Reunion. Drivers such as Ed Fay, Bob Baldwin, Pete Parker, Bud Johnson, Arnie Flint, Don Kio, Terry Gleason, Jim Schimp, Larry Bigley, Mike Reed, Tom Taber and other retired drivers are being invited. Active drivers that cut their teeth and made their mark at the old track when it was named, Bradford Speedway such as, Brewer, Andrews, Stitzinger, Close, Ron Baker, Isadore and Mike Wonderling will be invited as well. This should be a special night of stars of the past, present and future all being at one place.
Along with the NORTHERN TIER 40 for the ULMS super late models, the Hill Raceway Street Stocks will be running in a 100 lap non points event that will pay $600 to win. A full card for the Chargers, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks and Thundercars as they will also be running in a non-points event. Northern Tier Water and Excavating will be the evening sponsor and without their support, this evening would not be happening. Grandstand Admission is $12 for Adults and Pit Passes will be $25. Racing starts at 5PM.
Will new blood, such as Knight, Scott, Darrell Bossard or a Greg Oakes, tame the old ¼ mile or will one of the wiley veterans such as Brewer, Close or Stitzinger revisit victory lane at the HILL RACEWAY just as they did many times when they were younger racing at the old Bradford Speedway? Come out on Sunday, July 15th to the HILL RACEWAY and find out why the United Late Model Series is billed by MCR announcer, Rod Biehler as the “Greatest show on Dirt!â€

Dave Lundgren Memorial Postponed
June 27, 2007
As per our earlier agreement with Stateline Speedway, due to the rain out at Stateline, MCR is officially cancelled for tomorrows races (Thursday). At this time, MCR’s next scheduled race will be Saturday, July 7th.
The Dave Lundgren Memorial for the United Late Model Series will be made up, we are looking at possible dates and an announcement will be forthcoming.
ULMS RETURNS FOR MCR’s THURSDAY NIGHT THUNDER – June 28
June 20, 2007
E. Smethport, PA
The United Late Model Series returns to McKean County Raceway in E. Smethport, PA for the second THURSDAY NIGHT THUNDER program on Thursday, June 28.
The ULMS super late models will be kicking up the 1/3 mile clay for the $3000 plus to win Dave Lundgren Memorial. A race in honor of the 1989 MCR dirt late model champion and competitor at various race tracks in the area past away from a courageous battle with cancer.
ULMS point leader, David Scott will lead the ULMS contingent to MCR with wins in both ULMS races so far in 2007. Mike Knight of Ripley, NY sits second in points behind Scott and has a very comfortable in the ULMS Rookie of the Year chase over DIRT modified driver, Russ Hefti. Chris Hackett and Dave Hess sit third and fourth in the point chase while steel block drivers, Bob McMillen and Chris Farrell sit fifth and sixth respectively.
Last year, Bob Close of Eldred, PA picked up inaugural Dave Lundgren Memorial defeating Dave Hess and Boom Briggs. Close finished second in the last event at MCR, but was defeated by Scott and his SlowRide machine. Close will no doubt be one of the contenders in this event. Hess and Briggs were caught up in the opening lap crash and never had a chance to give SlowRide a battle.
A quality field of 31 dirt late models were on hand for the last event and this event looks to bring a few more cars to the table. Dave Lundgren was a long time competitor at Stateline Speedway as well as MCR and many of the late model veterans from Stateline will be on hand to celebrate the life of #6, Dave Lundgren. Fans can expect to see the Bolt Place #28B of Dick Barton, Todd Andrews, Luke Hoffner, Brent Rhebergan, Rick Isadore, Dutch Davies, Doug Ricotta, Jason Dupont, Darrell Bossard along with possible outsiders such as Dan Stone and Jared Miley popping in. MCR officials are hoping that some outsiders visiting the World of Outlaw event at Stateline the night before may stop on in before heading to the big event at Lernerville. All signs point to a very good field of dirt late models being on hand.
The Dave Lundgren Memorial will be a 30 lap affair with $3000 plus to win and $200 to start. There is also lap money being placed in the event along with some other bonuses. There is a $200 Hard Charger award along with a additional $200 going to the sixth place finisher courtesy of the Lundgren family in honor of Dave and his familiar #6 dirt late model. Anyone wishing to sponsor a lap can do so by sending $20 to McKean County Raceway, 40 Patterson Lane, Bradford PA 16701.
Racing starts at 7PM. Pit Gates open at 4PM. ULMS registration and pill table opens at 430PM and closes at 6:30PM. ULMS MANDATORY driver meeting is at 6:30 PM.
THE UNITED LATE MODEL SERIES is supported by the following sponsors: Bernheisel Race Cars, Close Racing Supply, GRT Race Cars, Lias Tire, American Racer Tire, R&M Home and Auto/ AMSOIL, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, WZKZ Radio, Cousins Designs, Oyler Racing Photos, Magnum Graf-x, JB Distributors (Coors Light), Raceway Magazine, Ed Carley Motorsports, Big Shot Performance, Jerge’s and Billsdirtlatemodels.com.
