DAVID SCOTT WINS ULMS NANCY BLY MEMORIAL AT MCR
E. Smethport, PA
McKean County Raceway hosted their first THURDAY NIGHT THUNDER program and it featured the first super dirt late model event of season. The United Late Model Series rolled into MCR for the first time since last fall’s FALL CLASSIC and the crowd was greeted by clear blue skies and thirty-one of the finest dirt late models in Northeast.
The ULMS late models rolled onto the facility for the 30 lap $2000 to win Nancy Bly Memorial. Ward Schell was sitting on the point due to his JB Distributing / Coors Light Redraw. Schell had Jeff Hoffman sitting on the outside of him as the duo took ULMS starter, Tony VanPelt’s initial green flag and led the thundering herd of 24 ULMS super late models into turn one.
This is where the thundering herd started scrambling as Schell looped his #61s in front of the entire field. A massive five-car pile up resulted with Todd Andrews finding his car sitting on top of the #61 machine. Boom Briggs, Luke Hoffner, Dave Hess was also involved. Everyone was done for the evening except for Hoffner who came back on the track several laps down.
Once the line up reset by the track officials as the entire inside row except for David Scott, who started third was lost due to the first lap mishap. Jeff Hoffman now on the point and David Scott was on the outside of row one. Hoffman and Scott roared down the front stretch on the start. Scott got ahead of Hoffman as they raced down the backstretch and as lap one was completed it was Scott, Hoffman and Bob Close in third. Close would move into second with a inside move in turn 3 on Hoffman on lap three and would set chase for Slowride.
Lap seven saw the #33 of Chris Hackett go pit side as he was in the top ten. A yellow came out on lap eight for debris in turn 4 and this would allow a double file restart. Scott chose the outside lane over Close and they took off, but Scott would get himself ahead of Close as they came out of turn 2. Kirk Bradley would take third from Hoffman on lap nine as Chad Valone and Dick Barton were waging battle for fifth.
As lap ten clicked off the board, Barton had disposed of Valone for fifth and on the very next lap the black #28B Bolt Place Ford was in third. Bradley would reclaim third from Barton on lap thirteen as two were waging a great battle behind the leaders. As the halfway point crossed it was still Scott over Close and Bradley was now closing in on the top two.
Lap seventeen saw the last yellow for Rick Isadore who was tagged in the rear as he was in a tight four car battle for seventh. Isadore would put his car into pits same for Brent Rhebergan. Scott took off on the single file restart and would just leave the field in his wake. Slowride wasn’t in a slowride machine. The battle now was for third between Bradley and Barton as the duo had been running a great race all night long and at the checkers it was David Scott picking up his second win of the year on the ULMS tour and his fifth all-time ULMS win. Close, the 2006 ULMS champion was second and the “King†Dick Barton made the outside pass on Kirk Bradley in turn four to steal third from the 5B of Bradley. Chad Valone came home fifth, followed by Jeff Hoffman, Miles Stitzinger, Randy Lobb and Darrell Bossard rounded out the top ten.
David Scott drives the Rick Peterman owned, Lubricant Specialists, Jim’s Automotive, Krolls Kountry Cupboard, Integra Shocks, Hoosier Tire, Cornett Racing Engines, Mastersbilt Race Car #361 Ford Fusion. Scott’s win was his second of the year, giving him a very comfortable lead early in the 2007 ULMS point chase and it also ties him with Bob Close and Ron Davies on the all-time ULMS wins list with five wins.
The United Late Model Series will return to action on Thursday, June 28 for the 2nd Annual Dave Lundgren Memorial at MCR. The ULMS late models will run 30 laps for a minimum of $3000 to win. ULMS will be accepting lap sponsors for this event as well. ULMS is asking a minimum donation of $20 per lap. Donations can be sent to 40 Patterson Lane, Bradford, PA 16701. If Stateline Speedway cancels their WoO Late Model show the night before due to weather or weather cancels, the Lundgren Memorial, the rain date for the Lundgren Memorial will be Thursday, July 5.
The HILL Raceway has announced that they will allow any ULMS late model team and up to five crew members in free on any Sunday night for practice leading up to the ULMS Northern Tier 40 on Sunday, July 15.
