ULMS RETURNS FOR MCR’s THURSDAY NIGHT THUNDER - June 28
June 20, 2007
E. Smethport, PA
The United Late Model Series returns to McKean County Raceway in E. Smethport, PA for the second THURSDAY NIGHT THUNDER program on Thursday, June 28.
The ULMS super late models will be kicking up the 1/3 mile clay for the $3000 plus to win Dave Lundgren Memorial. A race in honor of the 1989 MCR dirt late model champion and competitor at various race tracks in the area past away from a courageous battle with cancer.
ULMS point leader, David Scott will lead the ULMS contingent to MCR with wins in both ULMS races so far in 2007. Mike Knight of Ripley, NY sits second in points behind Scott and has a very comfortable in the ULMS Rookie of the Year chase over DIRT modified driver, Russ Hefti. Chris Hackett and Dave Hess sit third and fourth in the point chase while steel block drivers, Bob McMillen and Chris Farrell sit fifth and sixth respectively.
Last year, Bob Close of Eldred, PA picked up inaugural Dave Lundgren Memorial defeating Dave Hess and Boom Briggs. Close finished second in the last event at MCR, but was defeated by Scott and his SlowRide machine. Close will no doubt be one of the contenders in this event. Hess and Briggs were caught up in the opening lap crash and never had a chance to give SlowRide a battle.
A quality field of 31 dirt late models were on hand for the last event and this event looks to bring a few more cars to the table. Dave Lundgren was a long time competitor at Stateline Speedway as well as MCR and many of the late model veterans from Stateline will be on hand to celebrate the life of #6, Dave Lundgren. Fans can expect to see the Bolt Place #28B of Dick Barton, Todd Andrews, Luke Hoffner, Brent Rhebergan, Rick Isadore, Dutch Davies, Doug Ricotta, Jason Dupont, Darrell Bossard along with possible outsiders such as Dan Stone and Jared Miley popping in. MCR officials are hoping that some outsiders visiting the World of Outlaw event at Stateline the night before may stop on in before heading to the big event at Lernerville. All signs point to a very good field of dirt late models being on hand.
The Dave Lundgren Memorial will be a 30 lap affair with $3000 plus to win and $200 to start. There is also lap money being placed in the event along with some other bonuses. There is a $200 Hard Charger award along with a additional $200 going to the sixth place finisher courtesy of the Lundgren family in honor of Dave and his familiar #6 dirt late model. Anyone wishing to sponsor a lap can do so by sending $20 to McKean County Raceway, 40 Patterson Lane, Bradford PA 16701.
Racing starts at 7PM. Pit Gates open at 4PM. ULMS registration and pill table opens at 430PM and closes at 6:30PM. ULMS MANDATORY driver meeting is at 6:30 PM.
