CHUBZILLA GRABS ULMS LUNDGREN MEMORIAL AT MCR

The anticipation of the MCR FALL CLASSIC finally arrived, Friday night. Sixty-six late models from West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and two Canadian provinces entered the pits for the $5000 to win United Late Models Series sanctioned Dave Lundgren Memorial
Doug Eck and Kirk Bradley would pace the field for the 30 lap sprint. Eck would scoot to the front over Bradley and Chub Frank. Frank would slip by Bradley on lap three and set his sights on Eck. As lap five clicked off Chub in his unique Chubzilla designed car was all over Eck’s #03 Rocket chassis. Lap eight would see defending Lundgren Memorial winner, Bob Close move into third while, Luke Hoffner was rim riding his way still in fifth.
Frank stayed glued on Eck’s bumper as they started to enter lap traffic on lap twelve. Frank would make his move on lap sixteen and grab the top spot as Close had closed in on the top two. Eck was now the Chubzilla hunter and the white #03 machine stayed within a few car lengths of Frank. The first yellow of the event came out on lap twenty for Jim Yoder. The restart had the lap car of Adam Ferri between Eck and Close. Bradley and Hoffner completed the top five.
Hoffner would make his way to fourth with a lap 23 pass of Bradley. Chad Ruhlman went top side with his Miller Lite machine and got around Doug Horton, and Bradley to find himself fifth with five to go. The second yellow of the event came out on lap twenty seven for ULMS Rookie of the Year, Mike Knight. This setup a 3 lap shootout for the $5000 payday.
Frank got on the throttle to distance himself from Eck, with one to go, Ruhlman went topside and made the move to beat Close for third. Chub Frank would pick up the $5000 Dave Lundgren Memorial and would be one step closer for the $20,000 weekend that was available. Frank was followed by Eck, Ruhlman, Close and ULMS point leader, David Scott.
Heat Winners were: Knight, Barton, Boom Briggs, Close, Frank and Ricotta.
Mike Balzano and Dutch Davies captured the consolation events.
