ULMS Late Models to Hold Dashes in 2008!
March 27, 2008
For the 2008 season the Northern Tier Inc. United Late Model Series will be holding dashes for the top heat qualifying drivers to determine the front half of main event starting grid for each late model event in 2008. Andrews Auto Salvage of Eldred, PA has come on board to sponsor the 2008 Andrews Auto Salvage Dash King award!
“Last year, I kind of wanted to start running dashes, but was unable to find a sponsor, so we stuck with the normal top twelve redraw as we have done since day one with the series,” stated ULMS Racing Series Director, Chris Zuver. “This year, I thought about it again and approached Todd Andrews of Andrews Auto Salvage and he was willing to sponsor the dashes.” “We are going to do the dashes just like we have done them the past two years at McKean County Raceway for the Fall Classic.”
In the past the top twelve qualifiers in the heat races redrew for the main event starting positions, this those top twelve qualifiers will redraw for the respective dashes. Drivers pulling an odd number pill will start in the first dash and the even number pills will result in the drivers running in the second dash. How the drivers finish the first dash will determine the inside row and the second dash will determine the outside row. A point system will be kept on the finishes and at the end of the season; the top point car in the Andrews Auto Salvage Dash will receive a $300 bonus.
“When ULMS first started, not many events and tracks did the top twelve redraw. Now many weekly race tracks have some sort of top twelve redraw and for our series to look more different than a normal special weekly show, I need to distance ourselves from that look,” commented, Zuver.
The Northern Tier Inc. United Late Model Series kicks off the 2008 season on Saturday, April 26 at McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, PA. The 19th Annual Jim Duffy Memorial will pay $2000 to win along with lap money. Also the winner of the Jim Duffy Memorial will be a guaranteed starter for the $5000 to win IRS sanctioned Dave Lundgren Memorial on Friday, May 16 at MCR.

ULMS Emods At Mercer’s “CHILLER THRILLER” Postponed to April 5
March 26, 2008
Mercer Raceway Park announced Tuesday night that the scheduled season opening “Chiller Thriller” event scheduled for this Saturday, March 29 has been postponed to Saturday, April 5 and the first open practice scheduled for Wednesday, April 5 has been postponed to Wednesday, April 9 due to wet grounds. Some seven inches of snow fell this past Friday night into Saturday added to the already snowiest winter on record.
“We had hoped last week we’d have a shot, but the snowfall last weekend and continued cold, inclement weather has left the grounds saturated and hasn’t allowed our track crew to get on the speedway. We’ve decided to push everything a week back including our first practice to hopefully give the grounds more time to dry and our track crew a chance to get on the speedway.”
The “Chiller Thriller” on Saturday, April 5 will still feature the Steel-Block Late Models for $2,000 to-win, $200 to-start, the open Stock Cars for $1,000 to-win, the debut of the United E-Mod Series for $750 to-win, and the M&D Paving Mini Stocks for $150 to-win. Drivers in the Steel-Block Late Model and Stock Car divisions still have the opportunity to pre-register for $30 and $25 respectively. Forms are available online at our website at www.mercerracewaypark.com.
Adult admission is $15; students 6-15 are $7; children five and under are free; family pass is $35; and pit passes are $30.
