ULMS RETURNS HOME TO MCR FOR 2008 SERIES OPENER

The Northern Tier Inc. United Late Model Series will kick off its 2008 season at, McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 26. The annual Jim Duffy Memorial will be on tap and this event will pay $2000 to win for the 30 lap main event for the super dirt late models. The winner will also be a guaranteed starter for the Dave Lundgren Memorial in May at MCR, which will be sanctioned by the IRS series.

McKean County Raceway is a 3/8 mile oval that sits in the rural town of Smethport, PA. ULMS has had thirteen races at MCR since 2002 and there have been nine different winners. Chub Frank has three ULMS wins at MCR while, Bob Close, Todd Andrews and Rob Blair each have two wins a piece at MCR. Solo ULMS winners at MCR are: Dick Barton, Ron Davies, Dan Stone and David Scott. Close is the two-time defending ULMS champion and has six ULMS wins to his career. Ron Davies and David Scott each have career ULMS wins.

The opening night event is in memory of the late Jim Duffy. Mr. Duffy was a very important part of the rebuilding of the racetrack in the early 1980s. He returned to late model racing in the mid 1980s and on opening night in 1989, he passed away after running the opening nights heat race.

ULMS will be collecting lap sponsor money for the Jim Duffy Memorial from fans and businesses. In 2006 almost approximately seven hundred dollars was collected in lap sponsor money for the Duffy Memorial. “I am hopeful the fans and what I call the friends of MCR will step up and help make this event a little more special as the late Jim Duffy was a very vital part of rebuilding MCR back in the early 1980s.” commented ULMS Director, Chris Zuver. Lap sponsorship will be $20 per lap and payments can be mailed to ULMS Racing Series, PO Box 113, Friendship, NY 14739.

Fans can expect to see the Northern Tier Inc. ULMS late models pull in from all across the state of Pennsylvania, New York and Canada. Defending two-time series champion, “The Razor”, Bob Close will be on hand and looking to be the first three-peat ULMS champion. David Scott who finished two points behind Close will be on hand as well in his familiar “Slowride” number 3 machine. Todd Andrews has won the Jim Duffy Memorial the past two years and he will be looking to three-peat as well in the Duffy Memorial. Other drivers that should be on hand are: Boom Briggs, Kirk Bradley, Al Brewer, Ron Davies, Greg Oakes, Luke Hoffner, Chris Farrell, Dennis Lunger, Dave Hess Jr., Jason Dupont, Doug Ricotta, John Lobb, Dutch Davies, Dick Barton, Peter Mantha, Ed Connor and many more will be coming for the automatic qualifying spot for the May 16 IRS sanctioned Dave Lundgren Memorial.

Fans again will see the fan friendly, ULMS format, where the race teams will pull pills to determine their starting positions in the qualifying events and the top twelve teams will race in the two Andrews Autos Salvage Dashes to determine the first twelve positions for the main event. Racing starts at 7pm, Saturday, April 26 at McKean County Raceway. For more information, please check the ULMS website out at www.unitedlatemodelseries.com
