SATTERLEE DOMINATES ULMS LATE MODELS AT McKEAN COUNTY RACEWAY

E. Smethport, PA The Northern Tier Inc. ULM S Late Model Series rolled back into McKean County Raceway for the twice rained out Nancy Bly / Hazen Jordan Memorial Thursday night. Rochester Mills, Pennsylvania hot shoe, Gregg Satterlee, “The Renegade” completely dominated the field leading the entire thirty lap event and easily capturing the $2000 prize money.

The Nancy Bly / Hazen Jordan Memorial was the main event of the night and Lakewood, New York’s John Volpe and Satterlee were the front starters. Volpe inherited the pole position when pole sitter, Jason Dupont’s car would not fire and make it to the lineup. After a complete restart for a false start, Satterlee immediately showed his muscle at the drop of John Powell’s green flag. With the opening lap in the books it was Satterlee already with a four car length advantage over Volpe and central Pennsylvania star, Luke Hoffner. Albion, PA driver, Dennis Lunger would move into third on the second lap, but Hoffner would come back to grab third on laps three and four. With five laps down it was Satterlee with a three quarter length of a straight away lead over Volpe and a fast moving Chad Valone now in third. Hoffner was fourth and current ULMS point leader and ninth place starter, Bob Close was now in fifth.

Valone would move into second on lap six as Satterlee was now hitting the lap traffic. Close would move into fourth on lap eight and take third from Volpe on lap nine. As the race hit lap ten, seventh place running Dennis Lunger’s machine would come to stop to bring out the first yellow. With the double file restart, this allowed Valone, Close, Dutch Davies to start right near Satterlee. It was a mute point as the #22 machine of Satterlee left his competitors behind. Valone and Close waged a torrid battle for second while tenth place running Mike Knight entered the top five at the halfway point. Dutch would get by close on lap eighteen as Valone separated himself a little bit while Satterlee was enjoying the sights around the MCR oval. Tim Steis would bring out the yellow on lap nineteen as he ended up in the turn 3 wall. Satterlee made it clear to Valone on the restart that it was his race as he just motored away. With ten to go, Brent Rhebergen grabbed fifth from his twelfth starting spot but that lasted only one lap as Knight came back to grab fifth. Satterlee led the final laps of the event and grabbed his second career Northern Tier Inc. ULMS feature and his second of three MCR wins in 2009 easily over Valone, Dutch Davies, Bob Close and Mike Knight. Rhebergen, Volpe, Greg Oakes, Doug Ricotta and Ron Davies rounded out the top ten.

ULMS will be back in action on Saturday, August 1 at Woodhull Raceway.
