LOTS OF MONEY IN SEPTEMBER FOR ULMS RACERS
August 26, 2009
The 2009 racing season is starting to wind down and the month of September will provide a multitude of special paying events for the ULMS Racing Series divisions for the Northern Tier Inc. United Late Model Series and the Kinzua Water Service United Emod Series. The money and action starts Labor Day weekend at Tri City Speedway in, Franklin Pa for the KWS UEMS Emods.
On September 5-6, the Kinzua Water Service United Emod Series will join the World of Outlaw Late Model Series at Tri City Speedway for the annual Labor Day Oil City Classic. The two day event will see the KWS UEMS teams compete in two separate $1000 to win events. Saturday, September 5 will see the KWS UEMS Emods being led by point leader and defending champion, Randy Hall. This event will be 20 laps in length and will pay $100 to start. Last years event saw 42 emods on hand and the winner being local racer Al Cressley. The very next night will see The KWS UEMS teams compete for another $1000 and with a increased purse with last place paying $170 to start. Todd Roncaglione won the Sunday portion last year. Randy Hall who has fifteen wins this year finished second both nights and the 2009 Alltel AllStar Champion will no doubt be looking to grab his first ever Tri City win. Tri City will be led by local favorite, Shawn Shingledecker along with Carl McKinney. Hall will lead the UEMS contingent along with Brent Rhebergen and Russ Dunn. A quality field of entries is expected as fifty different emods were entered in the two day affair last year.
The following weekend the Kinzua United Emod Series will venture to Raceway 7 in Conneaut, Ohio for the $3000 to win UEMS open Invitational. This event will be co-sanctioned with the Tri State Modified Association Series out of the southern Ohio and West Virginia region. With the big winner payout, a huge stellar field is expected to be on hand at the 7/16 oval in Northeastern Ohio. Jack Young is the current point leader at Raceway 7. The Thompson, Ohio emod standout will no doubt be one of the track favorites to win along with, Percy McDonald and Joel Watson. UEMS point leader, Randy Hall has a pair of wins this year at Raceway 7, so no doubt the NE Emod star knows his way to the winners circle at the Ohio oval. Rhebergen, Dunn, Greg Johnson and Dave Hess Jr will also be contenders.
The Kinzua United Emod Series will next go to the monster half mile oval of Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway in Imperial, Pennsylvania as part of the Pittsburgher weekend. Last year, Keith Berner of Millersport, OH captured the UEMS Emod portion of the Pittsburgher and the $1000 prize. This year’s edition will again pay $1000 to win and qualifying heat events will be held on Friday, September 18, while the consolation and a 27 lap main event will be held on Saturday, September 19, with a raindate for the following day. PPMS stars of Daryl Charlier, Kevin Miller and JE Stalder will no doubt be the local fan favorites. Defending UEMS champion, Randy Hall finished second last year to Berner. Brent Rhebergen finished second earlier this year at the UEMS Modified Madness event at PPMS. Outsiders, Joe Gabrielson, Andre Layfield along with Jake Hawkins will no doubt be be on hand and be contenders to find victory lane.
The final weekend of September will be a extremely busy weekend for the ULMS Racers as both the Northern Tier Inc. United Late Model Series and the Kinzua Water Service United Emod Series will have six events in four days and with a total payout of around $80,000 for both series.
It all starts with the 4th Annual MCR Fall Classic at McKean County Raceway on Thursday, September 24 with the 2nd annual MCR Fall Classic King of Hill featuring the ULMS late models and the winner going home with a $1000. Last year, Boom Briggs used the KOH event to sweep all three nights of the MCR Fall Classic. On Friday, September 25, the Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Models will have a $2000 preliminary Fall Classic event paying $2000 to the winner. The Kinzua Water Service United Emod Series will join big brother on Friday night and they will run for $1000 to win show. So far this year at MCR, Gregg Satterlee has two ULMS wins and no doubt has become one of the fan favorites at the 3/8 mile oval. Current ULMS point leader, Bob Close will no doubt be looking to put a stranglehold on his ULMS point leader. Randy Hall won the lone UEMS event at MCR this year and has obviously been the car to beat at MCR the past two years.
On Saturday, September 25, the 4th annual MCR Fall Classic will concede with the 4th annual $12,000 to win Priority Care RaceFAN 50 highlighting the weekend. Past winner, Chub Frank, Rob Blair and last years winner, Boom Briggs will all be back to MCR for the Fall Classic along with outsiders, Jared Miley, Alan Sagi, Scott Lebarron along with UEMS stars, Brent Rhebergen, Jason Dupont and current point leader Bob Close. They and forty to fifty dirt late model teams from the northeast will be on hand competing all weekend for the posted $15,000 thats up for grabs over the three day weekend. The KWS United Emod Series will be running a complete program as well on Saturday and they again will race for another $1000 in prize money. Hall, Dunn, Rhebergen, Hess, Travis Asel, Tim Peterson, Kyle Bedell, Justin Carlson, Rich Gardner and many others will be on hand as this event has drawn fifty plus emods each of the past three years!
The very next day, Sunday, September 26, the Northern Tier Inc. ULMS Late Models will conclude their 2009 season at Little Valley Speedway in Little Valley New York. The ULMS late models will go thirty laps for $4000 to win. Current ULMS point leader, Bob Close is the track point leader and is looking to sweep both titles for 2009. Rhebergen sits second in the track points while 2008 ODLM champion, Greg Oakes sits third in points. With the Fall Classic being held the night before and potentially $19,000 up for grabs between the two tracks over the four days. With all that cash up for grabs over the weekend, both tracks should expect a great field of dirt late models to be on hand and this could be a weekend to remember for local race fans.

RANDY HALL CONTINUES UEMS DOMINANCE AT ERIEZ SPEEDWAY
August 17, 2009
Hammett, PA…The Kinzua Water Service United Emod Series returned to Bobby Rohrer’s Eriez Speedway after a very successful even in May. This time, instead of fourty degree temperatures the fans were roasting in the ninety degree heat. The action on the track was just as hot as the temperature, but Randy Hall of Olean, NY continued his “dream” weekend of dominance in the emod division by capturing the $1000 to win UEMS event at Eriez.
Wilcox, Pennsylvania’s, Tim Peterson and Fenelton, Pennsylvania’s Russ Dunn in the Clinger house car entry paced the 26 car field to Spanky Hall’s green flag. Dunn was looking for a great finish in hopes to narrow up the point chase between himself and Hall. Peterson fired at the starting cone and beat Dunn through the first two corners and raced down the backstretch to complete lap one as the the first yellow came out at the conclusion of the opening lap for the spun car of Tom Hagberg. Peterson and roared into the lead on the restart as Dunn, Brent Rhebergen, Steve Simon and Dave Lyon founding out the first five. Simon would slip out of the top five on lap three as Lyon would grab fourth and UEMS point leader and ninth place starting, Randy Hall was already in fifth. Rhebergen and Dunn would run door to door for second with the Terry Suppa owned #4s of Rhebergen grabbing second on lap six as Lyon would kick Dunn back to fourth. Dunn’s free fall would continue on the next lap as Hall and Justin Carlson both went by the #222* Clinger Race Cars entry. As the field was coming out of turn four for the ninth lap, Carlson would get real loose and lose several positions as Dave Hess Jr now moved into the top five with twelfth place starting Greg Johnson now in sixth.
The yellow lights would come back on for the Dan Davies machine. The running order still had Peterson on the point as he had opened a comfortable margin over Rhebergen who was in second. Dave Lyon was now third followed by Hall who was coming off a $5000 victory the night before. Hess was fifth followed by Johnson, Carlson, Simon, Eriez point leader, Rich Michael was ninth and Jason Genco rounded out the top ten. Peterson again charged down the front stretch on the restart only to have the field all over the back bumper of the #07P Peterson Refrigeration BMS machine and spring UEMS – Eriez winner, Brent Rhebergen would get out of shape in turn two resulting the field to bunch up playing bumper cars and the loser of the bunch was Rich Michael who would get tagged and spun around inadvertantly to bring out the yellow.
Peterson would again pull away on the restart as the Wilcox, PA driver seem destined to win his first ever UEMS event. As the field hit the halfway point, it was Peterson in command over the field as Rhebergen was feeling the pressure of Dave Lyon and defending and current series point leader, Randy Hall, with Dave Hess within reach. The laps fourteen thru sixteen saw the trio of Rhebergen, Lyon and Hall tightly engrossed in the three way battle that had all the fans watching till the yellow came out for debris on the front stretch erasing, Peterson’s big lead he had established. The top ten was Peterson, Rhebergen looking for back to back UEMS Eriez wins, Lyon, Hall, Hess, Carlson, Genco, Scott Gurdak, Simon and Kyle Bedell.
Peterson and would pull away from Rhebergen on the restart as Hall was all over David Lyon for third. It took till lap 18, but the Follman Rental Properties #10 BMS machine of Hall was now third and before the lap was completed the Hall Express was now in second. The yellow lights came out again for the cars of Kyle Bedell and Chad Silleman came together on the backstretch. The top ten was Peterson, Hall, Rhebergen, Lyon, Hess, Carlson, Gurdak, Genco, Simon and Rich Gardner was tenth. The lap 18 restart saw Hall chase Peterson and on lap 19 Hall would make the pass for the lead. The yellow would come out for Troy Carr who spun in turn one, but Hall was now the leader! The field restarted with five to go and Hall made sure nobody was going to get close to him as the Portville Truck and Auto #10 pulled away from Tim Peterson and again showed the fans and his competitors why he is the region’s top emod driver. While Hall left Peterson and company behind, Rhebergen and Dave Lyon were in a fierce battle for the third. At the finish it was Hall over Tim Peterson who enjoyed his career best UEMS finish with a second. Rhebergen was third fillowed by Lyon and Hess.
Heat winners for the 34 Kinzua Water Service Emods were: Hall, Johnson, Peterson and Lyon. Scott Gurdak and Troy Carr were the consolation winners. Hall’s win was his third UEMS win of the season and his sixteenth win of the season. Hall picked up $6000 over the weekend by winning $5000 the night before and the $1000 for his UEMS win at Eriez.
The Kinzua United Emod Series will take a few weeks off before heading to Tri City Speedway for the two day Labor Day Classic weekend that will have a pair of $1000 events on September 5th and 6th. Tri City will kick of the UEMS Month of Money as the Kinzua UEMS stars will be going after $8000 in winners prize money throughout the month with events at Raceway 7, Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway and McKean County Raceway. JOHNSON & MILEY CAPTURE ULMS-UFO F2 SHOCKWAVE EVENTS AT PPMS
August 17, 2009
The northeast regions two top regional dirt late model series, the UFO Race Championship Series and the Northern Tier Inc. United Late Model Series joined forces last night at Pittsburgh Pa Motor Speedway for a pair of Twin 31 lap $2500 to win events. Latrobe, Pennsylvania’s Davey Johnson and South Park, Pennsylvania driver, Jared Miley won the two F2 Shockwave events.
PPMS regular, Kyle Lukon and ULMS star, Boom Briggs were the front row starters for the first edition of the F2 Shockwave. Briggs would charge out of turn two on the outside to sweep into the lead over Lukon and Mark Banal with lap one completed. The field would roar into turn one when Grafton, WV driver, Josh Coffman would loop it in turn two to bring out the first yellow. Briggs again would get the good jump on the start over Lukdon. Tony Musolino would come into second on lap three as Lukon fell to third. Briggs and Musolino would run door to door till lap four when Musolino would overtake Briggs on the backstretch and with five in the books it was Musolino, Briggs, Steve Baker, Lukon and Mike Johnson in fifth. Baker would pull a slide job on Briggs on lap seven to snag the second position away. With ten in the books it was Musolino checking out on the field with Baker in second and a furious battle for third between Boom Briggs, Lukon and thirteenth starting Tommy Beck as they raced three wide out of turn four. As the two leaders were all alone, the battle for third was hotter than the 90 degree temperatures the drivers were facing. Beck, Lukon, Briggs, Davey Johnson who was sixth after starting fifteenth, Mike Johnson, Alex Ferree and Keith Barbara were all there fighting for the third position. Disaster struck on lap fourteen for Musolino as he was in lap traffice made contact with the lap car of Leo Stadelman resultin in Musoloino to turn side ways into the front stretch wall ending his excellent run at the front. the running order now was the 2008 Pittsburgher 100 winner, Steve Baker on the point with, Beck in second from his thirteenth starting spot. Lukon was still in third, with fifteenth starter, Davey Johnson in fourth, followed by UFO point leader, Alex Ferree. Mike Johnson. Al Atallah, Boom Briggs, Keith Barbara, and Jim Stephens rounded out the top ten.
On the restart, Ferree would spin and bring out the yellow relinquishing the fourth spot as the cars of Dave Johnson (not Davey), Chuck Medved, Brandon Wearing, Leo Stadelman, Jim Lepro, Mel Minnick and Bobby Marietta were all involved. As the field restarted again, the cars of Barbara and Lukon got together resulting in a serious hard crash that would get 8 cars involved. Barbara and Lukon’s cars were destroyed with Lukon receiving a trip in the ambulance. The new running order was Baker, Beck, the Johnson brothers, of Davey and Mike with Al Atallah in fifth. Boom Briggs was leading the ULMS contingent in sixth followed by Jim Stephens, John Mollick, Jared Miley and Brent Rhebergen was now in the top ten.
Baker led the field to the restart and used the high groove to his liking with the halfway mark down in the books, the Johnson boys were now second and third with Davey making his presence known in second. The car on the move was Jared Miley with ten to go, Miley had charged to fifth and was still moving to the front as Davey was hunting down Baker for the lead. Lap 24 would see Baker get into the wall and this would allow Johnson to close right in on Baker. With six to go, Johnson was on the rear bumper of Baker and Miley had over taken Mike Johnson for third. Davey Johnson would make the pass on Baker in turn two to take the lead over and the #H1 of Jared Miley was still tracking down the top two cars. Miley would get around Baker with two to go but he would run out of laps to catch the #1J Rocket of Davey Johnson who started fifth. Miley would be second from his seventeenth starting spot. Baker was third, followd by Al atallah, Mike Johnson rounded out the top five. Tommy beck was sixth, followed by PPMS point leader Brandon Burgoon who started 19th after winning the Bmain. John Mollick was eighth, Boom Briggs was ninth, Jim Stephens was tenth, followed by 25 starting Ben Miley, Brent Rhebergen, ULMS point leader, Bob Close and Mel Minnick was fourteenth. In victory lane, Johnson redraw the invert pill of 14, putting Minnick and Close on the front row for leg 2 of the Shockwave experience.
The second wave of the F2 Shockwave rolled onto the track with Minnick and ULMS point leader, Close on the front row leading the 25 remaining entries to Greg Wheeling’s green flag. Minnick got the jump on Close at the start and with the first lap in, it was Minnick, Close, Brent Rhebergen and Ben Miley your top four. Close would lose ground on lap two as Rhebergen would slide into second. Lap three would see the wiley veteran, Ben Miley charge into second ahead of Rhebergen and as the field took lap five, it was Minnick, Miley, Burgoon, and Rhebergen with the cars of Baker, Stephens, Beck Jared Miley and Mollick in tow. The cars of Beck, Miley and Mollic were three wide out of four bringing the fans to their feet until the yellow came ouf for Josh Coffman who spun in turn four. On the restart, Rhebergen got a great start and charged back to second but as the field rolled into turn three, the cars of Jared Miley, Rhebergen, Baker, and Ben Miley were four wide as they entered the homestretch. They all made it clear and into turn one as Brandon Burgoon overtook Minnick for the lead and the entire top five took a complete new look as Burgoon was your leader with Baker now second, followed by Beck, Minnick and hard chargin Jared Miley. With ten laps in, Burrgoon was rimriding his way around the Monster Half Mile. Making his steady move to the front was Jared Miley and race number one winner, Davey Johnson as Miley was now third on lap fifteen and the “Juice” was up to sixth.. The running order was, Burgoon, Baker, Jared Miley, Beck, Ben Miley, Davey Johnson, Minnick, Stephens, Rhebergen and Close.
Miley was on the bumper of Baker and on lap sixteen did a powerful slide job in turn four to grab the second spot from Baker and was rapidly closing in on PPMS point leader Burgoon. Lap 18 would see the yellow lights come on as the cars of Stephens and Minnick were found in turn two. The top ten looked like this, Burgoon leading over the very quick Jared Miley, baker, Beck, Ben Miley having a stellar run in fifth. Davey Johnson was still in sixth with Brent Rhebergen seventh, Mike Johnson, Bob Close and John Mollick in tenth. On the restart, Beck grabbed thrid from Baker. Davey Johnson would kick Baker back to fifth on the very next lap as Johnson was starting to make his late race run again as he did in the first event. Lap 20 would see Jared Miley slide job Burgoon for the lead and Johnson put Beck back as the #1J was still coming to the front. Ben Miley’s great run ended on lap 23 as he fell off the pace and went pit side. Jared Miley was checking out as Burgoon and Davey Johnson battled for second and Beck and Baker went at it for fourth. Johnson would clear Burgoon to clearly grab second on that lap. Miley had checked out and had a straightaway lead over Davey Johnson and would sail to his first ever ULMS win and join Davey Johnson as the two UFO/ULMS F2 Shockwave winners. Johnson would finish second after starting fourteenth. Miley started thirteenth in the field. Brandon Burgoon was third, Tommy Beck was fourth followed by Steve Baker. Mike Johnson, John Mollick, Brent Rhebergen, Alex Ferree and Boom Briggs rounded out the top ten. ULMS point leader, Close was eleventh.
Heat winners for the 32 entries on hand for the UFO/ULMS joint sanctioned event were Boom Briggs, Keith Barbara and Mike Johnson. Brandon Burgoon won the Bmain.
The next scheduled event for the Northern Tier Inc. ULMS Late Models will be on Friday, September 25 and 26th at McKean County Raceway in E. Smethport Pennsylvania in part of the 4th annual MCR Fall Classic weekend. KINZUA WATER SERVICE UEMS EMODS RETURN TO ERIEZ SPEEDWAY ON SUNDAY
August 10, 2009
The Kinzua Water Service United Emod Series (UEMS) wll be making a return trip to Bobby Rohrer’s Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pennsylvania on Sunday, August. The UEMS Emods will be going 25 laps for $1000 to win. Brent Rhebergen won the previous UEMS visit at Eriez in May.
In May a quality field of 42 Emods were on hand and Clymer, New York’s, Brent Rhebergen picked up his first ever ULMS Racing Series win. Rhebergen who currently sits second in the ULMS late model points will no doubt be on hand in the Terry Suppa owned #4s Bob Pierce Chassis machine. He currently sits third in the UEMS points behind point leader and defending UEMS champion, Randy Hall and Russ Dunn.
Hall the 2009 Alltel Allstar champion just picked up a thousand dollar win this past Friday night at Raceway 7. Hall has fourteen wins so far this year with wins in four states. He also has a win at Eriez in July during the Clinger Memorial Emod classic. No doubt the Follman Rental Properties, Portville Truck, BMS #10 will be one of the contenders when the checkers fall. Russ Dunn sits second in the UEMS points, some thirty points behind Hall. Dunn knows it will only take one poor performance by the Hall #10 and his first ever win would tighten up the point chase tremendously as the series enter the September month of money events. Rhebergen sits fourteen points back of Dunn, mostly by his missing of the Tyler County event during Memorial Day weekend.
Jamestown’s, Greg Johnson is fourth in points. The #05 machine has been consistent runner so far in the five UEMS events. Johnson has a comfy 20 point lead over Tri City Emod star, Shawn Shingledecker who currently is in fifth in points and has a one point edge of Dave Hess Jr., who is still looking for his first ULMS Racing Series win in either the Emod or Late Model Series. Hess currently is fourth in Eriez Emod points and has four wins at his home track and was second to Rhebergen in the May UEMS event. Other UEMS entries expected on hand will be, Tim Peterson of Wilcox, PA, Mike Eschrich of Mt. Jewett, Justin Tatlow, Darren Tarabori in the v6 powered machine along with Kyle and Craig Bedell and southern invaders, Daryl Charlier of Midway Pennsylvania and Andre Layfield of Grafton, WV.
The UEMS faithful will have to go up against the Eriez stars of Rich Gardner in the James Clinger #222 house car. Rich Michael Jr of Ischua is second in Eriez points an no doubt will be looking for his first ever UEMS win. John Boyd and Mike Knight who just picked up his first ever ULMS Racing Series win in the late model series will no doubt be on hand in the second Clinger car. Throw in Stateline point leader, Justin Carlson and other Eriez notables such as Scott Gurdak and young Dan Davies and you have the making of a great field of cars.
The gates open at 4pm with racing hitting the track at 6PM. For more information check www.unitedlatemodelseries.com or www.eriez-speedway.com.
