EVAN TAYLOR SCORES FIRST EVER UEMS WIN AT TRI CITY FINALE
September 8, 2009
The third and final night of the Oil Region Classic weekend ended with a first time winner for the Kinzua Water Service United Emod Series. Evan Taylor of Saltsburg, Pennsylvania captured his first ever modified win and obviously his biggest career win during the 25 Lap KWS UEMS Oil Region Classic finale.
Night two for the KWS UEMS Emods saw forty entries on hand with Evan Taylor and Russ Dunn on the front row for Todd Beeler’s green flag. Young Taylor would lead the field out of turn two and race down into three when the car of Mike Knight would get turned into the backstretch wall ending his night and resulting in a complete restart. Again, Taylor would be the field into turn one and with the opening lap completed it was Taylor, Dunn, Dave Hess, Tim Engles and Mike Potosky your top five. Hess would grab second from Dunn on lap two and Little Hess was looking to improve on his second place finish the night before and grab his first career UEMS win. Taylor would keep his car glued to the bottom of the track not giving any daylight for Hess. With five laps down, it was Taylor, Hess, Dunn, Engles, Potosky rounding out the top five with the cars of Tim Peterson and Brent Rhebergen making the charge to the front on the high side.
Peterson would take his #07P BMS machine into the fifth spot on the very next lap and on lap later would overhaul Engles for fourth. With nine down in the books, Hess was three car lengths back from Taylor as Dunn and Peterson were waging battle for third and on lap ten the #07P of Peterson would crack the top 3 and was coming! As the field hit the halfway point, it was Taylor still over Hess and Peterson now seemed to come to a standstill and not gaining anymore ground on the front two. With ten laps to go, Brent Rhebergen would move into the top five as Engles would slide out of the top five. Lap 18 would see Rhebergen in the Terry Suppa owned Pierce Race Cars #4s move into the fourth position over Russ Dunn.
With five to go, the top two leaders hit lap traffic and Hess was now looking to find his way around Taylor, Rhebergen’s charge hadn’t stop as he was now up to third with three two go. As the two leaders came to get the white flag, Hess would charge to outside of turn one and two as he did the night before, but this time he would slide high and allow Evan Taylor to pull away to capture his first ever Emod feature win and became the tenth different winner out of the sixteen events in the series history. Hess would have to settle for second followed by Rhebergen, Tim Peterson an Russ Dun was your top five.
The Kinzua Water Service United Emod Series will return to action, this Friday night at Raceway 7 for a $3000 to win UEMS Invitational. On September 18-19, the UEMS cars will be at Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway in part of the 21st annual Pittsburgher weekend and end September with a pair of $1000 win events on Friday and Saturday, September 25-26 at McKean County Raceway. TODD RONCAGLIONE CAPTURES NIGHT ONE OF KWS UEMS OIL REGION CLASSIC
September 8, 2009
Todd Roncaglione of Linesville just loves it when the Kinzua Water Service United Emod Series rolls into Tri City Speedway on Labor Day weekend. For the second straight year, Todd won during the Oil Region Classic weekend events. The win gave Roncaglione a cool grand for his efforts after a last lap battle with Dave Hess to win by .279 seconds.
Thirty seven Kinzua Water Service United Emods were on hand for night number two of the Oil Region Classic at H&H Motorsports Tri City Speedway in Franklin, Pennsylvania. Todd Roncaglione and track champion Shawn Shingledecker were the front row starters. Roncaglione would beat Shingledecker into turn one on the start and with lap one completed it was Roncaglione over Shingledecker, Mike Knight, Al Cressley and Dave Hess. Cressley would move into third on lap two as he was looking to repeat his performance from a year ago. Knight would slide back to fifth on the next lap as Hess would now be in fourth. As lap five clicked off the board, the #00 of Todd Roncaglione was checking out as Shingledecker was still second ahead of Cressley. Cressley would move closer to Shingledecker and on lap nine the two would make contact in turn three resulting in Cressley’s #15 machine to tumble over a few times and land on its roof to bring out the red flag. Shingledecker would go to the pits for repairs and the new running order was Todd Roncaglione, Dave Hess, Mike Knight, Brent Rhebergen, Evan Taylor, Randy Hal, Carl McKinney, John Boyd, Justin Carlson and Mike Potosky.
And as lap ten was being completed the yellow would come out for Butch Southwell. The restart was wild as Roncaglione pulled away the cars of Hess, Knight and Rhebergen went three wide with Rherbegen grabbing third. With Rhebergen on the outside flying he took second from Hess on the very next lap, but one lap later the fans would see Rhebergen lose second to Hess again and Evan Taylor was now in fourth with Knight in fifth. With five to go, Evan Taylor would take third from Rhebergen as Knight was fending out the challenges of Randy Hall for fifth. The challenge ending on lap sixteen as Hall would move into fifth over Knight. With all this going on Roncaglione had a several car length lead over Hess and it appeared to be his race but as the white flag fell, Hess drove his Clinger Built #44H Hess Garage emod deep into turn one and two and made the pass for the lead as the leaders roared out of turn two. As the two entered turn three, Hess slid up the track just enough to allow Roncaglione to stick his nose under the 44H of Hess and some contact was made as the two drivers battled for the win and at the line it was Todd Roncaglione winning over Dave Hess by .279 second. Evan Taylor came home an impressive third with Rhebergen and Hall rounding out the top five.
