RICH MICHAEL RETURNS TO MCR TO CAPTURE UEMS EMOD EVENT

June 20, 2010

Rich Michael Jr. picked up his first Emod win at McKean County Raceway since 2006 in the Kinzua Water Service United Emod Series event.  John Woodward Jr. and Butch Southwell were the front row starters for the 25 lap event.  Woodward would lead the opening lap only to see the caution lights come on for Dennis Asel for smacking the front stretch wall.  Woodward would lead the second lap but the hottest Emod driver in the northeast, Rich Michael jumped into the lead on lap 3.  With five laps in the books, Brent Rhebergan now was second with Woodward third followed by Bob Close subbing for Vic Vena and Southwell was back to fifth.  Rich Gardner would move into the fifth spot on lap seven.  With ten laps in the books, Michael was still in control as Close was now back in second, but a heated contest was going on for sixth between Mike Knight, Dan Davies, Kyle Bedell, Al Brewer and Randy Hall.  The yellow would come out on lap eleven for Kyle Bedell and Hall in turn three and four.  Michael was still your leader with Closes, Rhebergen, Southwell, and Gardner rounding out the top five.

Michael jetted away on the restart from Close and Rhebergen.  The car on the move was Dan Davies who went to the top of the track and was looking like his dad, rim riding himself into the top five.  Carl McKinney was another car that was now on the move as the thirteenth place starter now found himself in seventh on lap fourteen.  The yellow lights came back out with four remaining.  This would give Close another shot at Michael on the single file restart, but it was Michael again getting a good start, but the #01 of Close stuck with the Michael and challenged him in each corner and pulling beside Michael’s a few times in the remaining laps to bring the fans to their feet as the duo charged into turn one on the last lap, Rhebergen would sweep to the outside and try to make it a three car battle for the finish, but Michael’s held off Close to take his first MCR win since 2006 and his third KWS UEMS win of the year.  Close subbing for Vena came home an impressive second, with Rhebergen, Southwell and Carl McKinney edging Davies for fifth.  Rich Gardner, edged Brewer by a few inches for seventh with Mike Knight and Bryan Douglass finishing tenth from his sixteenth starting spot.

The win was the third win of the year for Michael on the UEMS circuit and has added to his win total for the year to eleven wins and is preparing for another three nights of action as he will be at Eriez Speedway on Sunday night then head to Wayne County Speedway and Hilltop Speedway on Monday and Tuesday.

The United Emod Series will return to action on Sunday July 18 at Tri City Speedway for a $1500 to win event and then head to Stateline Speedway on July 31 for the UEMS $5000 to win EMOD INVASION which will also feature a $1000 to win Non Qualifier event as well.

JUSTIN CARLSON CAPTURES UEMS EMODS AT S. ARCADE SPEEDWAY

June 19, 2010

Sherman, New York’s, Justin Carlson made the trip to Mike Lauterborn’s, South Arcade Speedway in Delevan, NY driving the Tom Hagberg owned “High Voltage” #27H and made the trip pay off by winning the Kinzua Water Service United Emod Series event and going home $1000 richer.

South Arcade Speedway’s point leader, John Woodward Jr and Carlson led the field onto the speedway for the 25 lap affair.  Woodward would get the jump on Carlson at the start and lead lap one as sixth place starting, TJ Downs quickly went from sixth to third.  Carlson would take over the lead on lap two of the event and see his lead disappear on lap four for Kyle Bedell who spun in turn three.

On the restart, UEMS point leader, Randy Hall made a slicing move in turn two to take second over from Woodward as he slid back to fourth behind Downs.  Hall was trying to apply pressure on Carlson, but the battle was behind as Kari Gasser was battling with Woodward for fourth and farther back in the field Darren Tarabori, Al Brewer and Mike Eschrich were putting on a battle.  With ten laps in the books, it was still Carlson having a comfortable lead over Hall. Downs was still in third having a stellar run with  Woodward and “Mrs. UEMS” Kari Gasser in fifth.  The  yellow lights would flash on lap twelve for Woodward allowing Gasser to move up to fourth with Vic Vena now in fifth.  The caution would come back out one lap later for Greg Johnson who was sitting in turn one sideways, due to apparent contact with another car.  Carlson again controlled the start and pulled away from Hall.  With ten to go it was still Carlson in Hagberg’s machine leading Hall, Downs, Gasser and Vena.  With five laps remaining the top five were still the same but the battle between Eschrich, Tarabori, Brewer and Carl McKinney was really heating up for seventh as the foursome race three and four wide at times fighting for spots.  The caution lights came on again for Eschrich spinning and resulting in five other cars stopping or spinning to avoid the incident.  This ended a possible top five finish for the Mt. Jewett, Pennsylvania racer.

The restart allowed Hall to restart on Carlson’s bumper and Kari Gasser was now third as TJ Downs left the track with a broken radiator.  Hall charged after Carlson on the start and pulled beside him in turn 3, but Justin would use the high side momentum to his advantage to pull away again and out of no where on the final lap, Hall would see Kari Gasser pull up beside him to grab second.  Hall would prevail to hold onto that spot as the checkers fell for Justin Carlson as he won his first ever Kinzua Water Service  United Emod Series event over Hall, Gasser who made her first ever appearance at S. Arcade Speedway.  Nathan Hill was the winner last week at S. Arcade came home fourth with Vena in fifth.  Veteran, Al Brewer came home fifth feeling lots of pain from a shoulder injury that may prematurely put a stop to some weekly racing, Carl McKinney was seventh with Jaben Hill eight, George Ritter and Tom Norland rounded out the top ten.
