UEMS KEEPS ROLLING INTO LITTLE VALLEY THIS SUNDAY

May 25, 2011

The weather finally cooperated last weekend as the United Emod Series kicked off their 2011 season with a three day swing along the I-86 corridor. Three nights, three different winners which saw a average car count 39 cars per event from the tri state region.

The ULMS double header for Thursday, May 26 at McKean County Raceway has been postponed due to the grounds still being too satuated from all the rain the area has received. MCR will kick off their 2011 season on Saturday, June 4. The ULMS Dave Lundgren Memorial for the super late models and the UEMS Emod event will not be on the evening’s card and will be made up at a later date.

This gives UEMS one sole event for the holiday weekend at Little Valley Speedway for the track’s season opener on Sunday, May 29. A 25 lap $1000 to win event will see all the stars come out to the big half mile oval on the Cattaraugus County fairground oval in Little Valley, NY. Rich Michael Jr will no doubt be looking to grab the win as he is the defending track champion and is coming off a uncharacteristic subpar weekend. Vic Vena of Olean has had strong runs at the big half mile over the past few years and he will be looking for his first ever UEMS win as he is coming off his win at South Arcade Speedway. Hometown favorite, Kyle Bedell could be a factor and what a win it would be for the hometown driver! Bedell currently sits seventh in points only six points out of third. Joel Watson along with his nephew Bud are the top two point cars as the Conneaut duo will lead the UEMS contingent to Little Valley. The fans will be treated by some of the best regionally Emod racers around for the $1000 to win event. Other drivers expected in attendance are three time defending UEMS champion, Randy Hall who picked up the series opener last Friday night. Dave Hess Jr won Sunday night at Eriez and he would be expected to be on hand along with Brent Rhebergen, Jack Young, Mike Eschrich, Dan Davies, Kari Gasser, Justin Carlson, Dale Inman, John Woodward, Al Brewer, Butch Southwell are some of the many racers to be on hand. Raceivers are mandatory for the UEMS Emods at Little Valley.

Hammet, PA (May 22, 2011): Coors sponsored Eriez Speedway’s opening night with the United E-Mod Series sanctioning the final leg of the 2011 Tri-State Challenge. Randy Hall, winner at Raceway 7, and Joel Watson, winner at Stateline were in line for extra cash should they win the final night. With the challenge being a $200 bonus to win more than one of the weekend’s events at Raceway 7, Stateline, and Eriez.

The main event for the evening was the 25-lap United E-Mod Series Tri-State Challenge for the Plyler Overhead Door E-Mods. Russ Dunn led from the pole position with Dan Davies on the chase. The car on the move in the early going was seventh starting Dave Hess Jr, advancing to fourth by the time of the first yellow flag, for a spin in turn two by Ben Burgess Jr with nine laps complete. Burgess’ incident appeared to have been mechanically caused as the car had to be towed off the speedway. Using the double-file restart, Dan Davies nearly appropriated the lead but Dunn was able to re-assume the point just as caution again was displayed, for a three car tangle in turn four. From the restart again the two leaders were side by side until turn four when Davies slipped wide, allowing seventh starting Hess Jr to get by for second. Dunn, the 2010 Raceway 7 Champion, was running well but Hess was closing the gap with five laps to go. With four to go Hess dove to the inside and got by for the lead on the front straight. With two to go, Kyle Bedell spun in turn four, setting up a dash to the checkers with Hess leading, Dunn second, and Stateline winner Joel Watson third. Randy Hall, winner at Raceway 7, had been fourth but retired to the pit with a hole in his radiator. Hess handily went on to the win with Dunn holding on for second, Watson third, Dave Lyon fourth and Davies falling to fifth at the end.

Several cars tangled in turn two on lap two ending with Clayton Kennedy the only car stopped on the speedway. Innman, Watson Bedell, Dave Lyon and Al Brewer were the top five for the double file restart. The leader spun in turn two just after the restart for caution number two. Watson was the new leader with Brewer second and Bedell third. Lyon and Brewer caused caution thee slowing the event while the wrecker crews untangled their cars. Watson, Bedell and Shane Crotty were the leaders. Dan Davies and Butch Southwell completed the top five. With 8 laps complete Lyon came to a stop between turns three and four with obvious problems on the right front of his race car for caution four. Watson remained in charge with Crotty and Bedell giving chase. Dave Hess Jr. was fourth with Davies fifth. Mike Eschrich had problems with sixteen complete for yellow five. Leonard Enos did not make it through turn one on the restart for yellow six. A four car wreck on lap seventeen caused caution seven. Conneaut, OH (May 20, 2011): The weather forecast was not the best for afternoon and early evening but when fans arrived at the Raceway 7 for the first segment of the Tri-State Challenge for the Zimmer Service Center UEMS E-Mods the sky was clear with warm air bathing the grounds. By the end of the night rain was threatening but all racing was completed with Olean, NY’s Randy Hall, a past Zimmer Service Center E-Mod Champion taking home the win in the first leg of the Tri-State Challenge, a special with the sanction of Chris Zuver’s popular United E-Mod Series. 2010 Champions Max Blair (Evergreen Lake Park Campgrounds FASTRAK Late Models) and Jonny Boyd (Son Construction Mini Stocks continued their winning ways into the new season and Rush Firestone (Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks) broke into the winner’s column for the first time in his career at Raceway 7.

2009 track champion Percy McDonald jumped into the immediate lead of the UEMS 25-lapper for the Zimmer Service Center E-Mods with Randy Hall second at the end of lap one just as yellow flew for a spin in turn four by Chuck Steinle Jr. At the restart Hall charged by McDonald with McDonald spinning in turn two for the second caution of the event. At the restart it was again Hall with Rich Michael coming to second and Kari Gasser third. On lap three Michael scraped the wall on the back straight, then slowed and was collected by Al Brewer in turn three. At lap five Bud Watson dispatched Gasser back to third and then Joel Watson also got by for third. At halfway Hall had a half straight lead over Bud Watson with Joel Watson another three lengths back. Running fourth was Justin Carlson with Gasser back to fifth. Hall went on to the win in the brand new car, just finished Friday morning. Cousins Bud and Joel Watson battled to the end with Bud getting the runner-up honors, and Joel third. Carlson wound up fourth with Jack Young fifth. Hall, a former class champion, said in the winner’s circle that this is his first win this season, getting a late start and completing the car just today. Hall noted this is a team sport and he certainly could not run this well all by himself.
