ULMS FIRECRACKER TOUR PAYING NINE GRAND IN THREE NIGHTS!

June 22, 2011

As the Fourth of July weekend is upon us, the Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Models kick off the three night Firecracker Tour leading up to the 4th of July holiday. The Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Model series will head to their “home” track, McKean Co. Raceway for the first time in 2011 with the Ned Gleason Memorial and then head to Tri City Speedway and finish off the three day tour at Little Valley Speedway.

It all kicks off on Thursday, June 30 at McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, Pennsylvania as the ULMS stars roll into the 3/8 mile speed palace. The 2nd annual Ned Gleason Memorial will be a 30 lap event paying $3000 to win and $300 to start the event.

Mike Knight of Ripley, New York currently leads the ULMS points over former two time ULMS champion Dick Barton and last years Rookie of the Year driver, Dennis Lunger. Last year’s winner, Matt Lux of Franklin is scheduled to be on hand along with eastern Pennsylvania late model star, Dan Stone. They will be joined by defending ULMS champion, Boom Briggs, Bump Hedman and all-time ULMS point leader, David Scott, and many others from across the northern tier region. A full slate of MCR’s regular racing program will also take place including a FASTRAK Regional show.

The next night, the Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Models roll into Tri City Speedway in Franklin, Pennsylvania. Mike Knight will be looking to pick up where he left off in May when the ULMS series kicked off their season. Knight no doubt will have to fend off the stiff challenges of track point leader, Rob Blair and hometown driver, Lux. Dan Stone intends to be on hand for this event as well and “Big Brother” knows his way around the half mile oval as he picked up his biggest win of his career at Tri City. Brent Rhebergen loves Tri City and no doubt the all time Emod winner at Tri City will be looking for his first ever ULMS late model win at one of his favorite tracks. Barton, Chris Hackett, Dutch Davies will all be threats to win the $2000 first place prize.

ULMS ends the three night stint at Little Valley Speedway in Little Valley, New York. The big flat half mile oval has seen ULMS become a yearly tradition during the holiday weekend and this year is no different as the $4000 to win Freedom Daze Extravaganza will no doubt bring cars out. Chad Valone won his first ever ULMS win last year at Little Valley. “The Captain”, Jason Dupont has had solid runs at Little Valley and the black and white #No7 Northern Tier Inc machine will no doubt be a threat along with Knight, Briggs and Greg Oakes who has been real strong of late. No doubt whoever wins the finale, it will be a barnburner as in most events at Little Valley.

Three nights of ULMS Late Model action, coming to you at McKean County Raceway, Tri City Speedway and Little Valley Speedway with some of the regions best drivers competing for $9000 in the three night stint without traveling a far distance. What a way to celebrate the holiday, by watching the Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Models at these fine facilities. HALL WINS THRILLER AT MCR

June 22, 2011

E. Smethport, PA: The United Emod Series made their first visit of the year to MCR. Veteran, Al Brewer and Vic Vena paced the field to John Powell’s green flag with Brewer powering into the lead at the start. With the first lap completed the first yellow would come out as point leader, Joel Watson would get loose in turn one and get collected by Tim Walden and Friday night UEMS winner, Jack Young. Young would make it back on the track in time as the event was restarted before Watson was able to make it back to the lineup. Brewer again powered away from Vena as Randy Hall would slip by the 01 of Vena for second. Hall would take chase of Brewer in his familiar #71 machine. At the halfway point, Hall and Brewer had the fans on their feet while Vena, Bob Close and Kyle Inman were chasing the duo. The lead duo started enter lap traffic around lap fifteen as Hall closed in and got under Brewer, but it was the ageless veteran keeping the point. Lap nineteen would see the second yellow of the event for Young as he stopped on the backstretch. Brewer would take the inside lane on the double file restart and pulled away from Hall. Close would now slide Vena back to fourth with Butch Southwell now in fifth. All eyes were on the top two still as Hall kept his potent #10 on the inside as Brewer was using the outside groove. On lap 23, Brewer would slide high coming out of turn two to allow Hall to pull beside him going into turn three where the two made contact and Hall inheriting the lead with Brewer sliding back to fourth behind Vena and Close. As the four drivers took the white flag, Vena dove under Hall for his bid to lead and now Hall and Vena raced door to door for the win with Brewer and Close doing the same for third. Hall would hold off Vena at the line for the win. Close edged a disappointed Brewer for third with Craig Bedell finishing fifth from his 16th starting spot..

The UEMS Emod are now off till Friday, July 15 when they return to action at Little Valley Speedway for twin $1000 win events. The first event will be the feature from Memorial Day weekend, blackout event along with the scheduled $1000 to win event. There is a possibility the UEMS will be at MCR on Thursday, June 30 for making up their May event that was rained out.

Jack Young Scores Big in FIRST UEMS Feature WIN at Raceway 7!

June 22, 2011

Conneaut, OH, (June 17, 2011): The best weather conditions of the season greeted fans and competitors as they filed into Raceway 7 for the Zimmer’s Service Center UEMS feature which was set by heats run last week prior to the arrival of Mother Nature. Thompson, OH’s Jack Young prevailed over the UEMS field of E-Mods. Also on the card was a regular night of racing for the Evergreen Lake Park Campground FASTRAK Late Models, the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks, and the Son Construction Mini-Stocks. Max Blair, Chris Withers, and Jonny Boyd were repeat winners.

The UEMS Zimmer Service Center E-Mod feature was first up with the starting line-up determined by heats run last week before the rains came. Shane Crotty and Jack Young were on the front row. UEMS Point leader Joel Watson started the event from the fifth slot with second point car Bud Watson starting deep in the field at 19th. Crotty and Young ran lap one side by side with Crotty about a foot ahead at the completion of lap one. Young charged into sole possession of the lead by the time they got to the back straight on lap two. Meanwhile back in the pack Dan McDonald, Ken Zimmer and Gary Eicher tangled hard with McDonald getting some airtime. None of the three were able to continue. Crotty and Young continued their battle at the front after green with Joel Watson and opening night winner Randy Hall coming to third and fourth by lap four. Watson was second at lap seven and began closing on the leader. At halfway Watson was right behind Young but the leader then began pulling away once again. Crotty was running third with Hall holding steady in fourth and Mike Kinney fifth. The race ran green with Young leading until lap 22 when Al Brewer came to a stop in turn two for only the second caution of the event. At the green flag Hall immediately got by Crotty and Justin Carlson was flying on the outside to challenge Crotty for fourth. Kyle Bedell and Rick Pratschler tangled in turn one with three laps remaining, giving Watson and Hall another shot at Young, who was looking for his first-ever UEMS feature win. Young was up to the task with Watson settling for second, Hall third, Crotty hanging onto fourth, and Justin Carlson fifth.

UEMS BACK TO RACEWAY 7 FOR FEATURE AND MCR FOR TRACK OPENER

June 15, 2011

The United Emod Series will return to Raceway 7 in Conneaut, Ohio on Friday night to pick up where they left off last Friday night when the rain came.  With three heats in the books and the feature moments away, the skies opened up and the remainder of the event was washed out.  Rain checks will be honored by the track and the field is set for the 25 lap event.  Per agreement with track officials, additional cars will be added to the field (up to 30).  There will be no heat events for the Emod division on Friday night.

The UEMS tour then heads to McKean County Raceway on Saturday.  The UEMS Emods have been averaging thirty three cars per event with The Watson duo of Conneaut, Ohio on top of the point standings. Joel Watson will lead the UEMS contingent to MCR with his little cousin Bud sitting second in points.  Dave Hess Jr. has two wins on the UEMS circuit already this year is in third.  Shane Crotty of Corry, PA sits in fourth in points ahead of young Dan Davies of Warren.  Defending track and three time series champion Randy Hall sits in 6th in points with one lone win, while Thompson, Ohio’s, Jack Young, Little Valley, New York driver, Kyle Bedell and Justin Carlson all sit a few points back off hall in the very tight point race.   With the event at MCR, fans can expect to see former dirt late model star, Bob Close on hand competing with the likes of Al Brewer, Travis Asel, Mike Eschrich and others.  The UEMS Emods will be battling for a cool $1000 payday in the hotly contested division.
