Dave Hess Jr. Wins Jay’s Auto Wrecking ULMS Super Late Feature at Stateline Speedway

Saturday July 16th, 2011 Busti, NY: Hot racing and hot weather for the Jays Auto Wrecking ULMS $4,000 to win Super Late Model event at Stateline Speedway.
Dave Hess Jr. never relinquished the lead in the Jay’s Auto Wrecking ULMS Super Late Model event surviving several cautions but was never really challenged for the win. It was his second ULMS win at Stateline for the season and his third in four attempts.
John Haggerty and Kyle Scott were on the front row for the Crate Late Model feature and Haggerty became the early leader. A three car tangle collected Ed Carley, Scott, and T.J. Downs for the first caution. Justin Kreider and Adam Hilyer did a tandem spin for caution two. Three laps were complete with Haggerty, Newt Tackett and Steve Dixon were the restart leaders. Haggerty was able to extend his lead over the next green flag run as Dixon was trying to hold off Bob Dorman for second. Tackett had slipped to fourth and had Ed Carley on his bumper challenging for the spot. With 10 laps complete Haggerty led by half a straight with Dorman and Dixon side by side for second. Kreider spun with 12 laps complete for caution three. One more lap was completed before the next caution with four cars involved. They were four wide on the restart for second place. Dixon held onto the spot as Haggerty moved away from the filed. Harvey tested the turn two concrete with sixteen laps complete for caution four. Dixon lost second to Dorman on the restart with Haggerty once more moving away. Justin Tatlow and John Lacki brought out caution five. The just two laps remained in the event. Haggerty held on for the win his first Crate Late win at Stateline.

BOB CLOSE AND Lil “Rimrider” DAN DAVIES WIN UEMS FEATURES AT LITTLE VALLEY

(Little Valley, NY)There were twin E-Mod Features this night, one the regular UEMS Series race and the other an UEMS make-up event, which was stopped after eight laps by a power outage and thunder storm on May 29th. That race was restarted with a complete restart.
The makeup event went to former Super Late Model standout, Bob Close, from Eldred, PA. Close went off 11th, but was on a tear early, claiming third by lap four and then stalking leader Rich Michael for several laps before taking the point on lap 13 of the 20 lapper with a turn two pass. Michael would slide high in turn one the next lap allowing UEMS point leader Joel Watson to get by Watson was all over Close in the final laps, with help from a late caution, but couldn’t get a run for the lead as Close would pick up his second ever UEMS win and his first of the 2011 season. Close commented, “Michael’s fun to race with. He’ll drive it in as hard as he can. I knew Watson was there at the end. I didn’t need that caution.”

ROB BLAIR WINS JIM DUFFY MEMORIAL FOR ULMS AT MCR

E. Smethport, PA: Titusville, Pennsylvania driver, Rob Blair has scaled back his racing operation in 2011, but he picked up his first Northern Tier Inc ULMS win tonight at McKean County Raceway. Blair picked up $2500 in winning the Jim Duffy Memorial and also collected a guaranteed starting spot for the Priority Care RaceFAN 50 in September.
The “Titusville Terror” and “Hollywood” Mike Knight would pace the 20 car field to John Powell’s green flag and it was the ULMS point leader, Knight jumping into the early lead only to see Andy Boozel spin in turn 3 to bring out the yellow as lap one was completed. Knight chose the outside lane on the restart and charge into turn one as the leader of lap two with Blair and Chad Valone in tow. Matt Lux would get by Valone for third on lap three as Blair hounded Knight for the lead and on lap five it was Blair back to the point over Knight, Lux, Valone and Dennis Lunger.
BUSY WEEKEND FOR ULMS RACING SERIES

The ULMS Racing Series will have a busy weekend coming up as both the Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Model Series and the United Emod Series have two events in the northern tier hills of Pennsylvania and south western New York.
The Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Models kick the weekend off, Thursday night with the $2500 to win Jim Duffy Memorial at McKean County Raceway in E. Smethport, Pennsylvania. The winner not only gets the $2500 prize money but also a guranteed starting spot for the season ending Priority Care RaceFAN 50 in September.
Race fans if you missed the last ULMS show at MCR, you missed the closes finish in ULMS and MCR history as Chad Valone of Warren edged Franklin, Pennsylvania and Ripley, New York drivers, Matt Lux and Mike Knight by a mere 6 inches in a photo finish! Knight enters the event as the ULMS point leader over Dick Barton and Bump Hedman. A full field of cars is expected as drivers such as Dennis Lunger, Chris Hackett, Greg Oakes, Dave Hess Jr. who has two ULMS wins this year and Jason Dupont will all be on hand for the 30 lap event. So far this year, Mike Knight, Dave Hess, Valone and Dan Stone have won on the ULMS circuit with Stone and Hess being the only multiple winners.
Friday will see the United Emod Series get into the action with a pair of $1000 to win 20 lap events at Little Valley Speedway in Little Valley, NY. The first event will be the make up “black out” event that took place in May when the lights went out. A complete restart will take place and the Emods will go 20 laps. Ohio drivers, Jack Young and Bud Watson will pace the 24 car field that will consists of UEMS point leader Joel Watson starting tenth as he will have to get by the stiff competitors ahead of him of Kyle Bedell, Kyle Inman, Rich Michael, Al Brewer, Justin Carlson, John Woodward who won the last Emod event at Little Valley, and Dan Davies. Also in the field is former late model standout, Bob Close and Vic Vena who has been very impressive of late. Should be a barnburner right from the start.
The Chris Zuver led, UEMS Emods will also run a complete program for their regular schedule event that is on their 2011 schedule. So one driver can win $2000 on Friday night courtesy of UEMS and Little Valley Speedway.
Saturday will see the Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Models head to Stateline Speedway in Busti, New York for a $4000 to win event that will feature a American Racer tire only rule. Dave Hess has been the big winner at Stateline Speedway this year sweeping both special event late model events including the earlier ULMS event held. He will be looking for the hat trick on Saturday but he no doubt will have stiff competition from Doug Eck who won last Saturday night along with Dutch Davies, Chris Hackett, Dick Barton, Knight, Hedman, Valone and others. The 30 lap feature will be fast and fierced so get there early and get your seat!
