The All Star 30 was on tap for the evening, seeing a cool grand going to the winner. Todd Roncaglione of Linesville, PA picked up his biggest career win and his first win since 2001 at Tri City Speedway. He became the fourth different winner in the four 2008 UEMS events this year.

Roncaglione and defending All Star 30 winner and defending two-time Tri City champion, Carl McKinney were the front row starters for the 30 lap main event. McKinney, fresh off a FASTRAK Late Model win earlier in the night, was looking to give his car owner, Mike Hendrickson, his second UEMS – E Series win of the weekend.

Roncaglione had other ideas as he out dragged McKinney at the start. As lap one was completed the third and fourth place cars of Bruce Powell and Ron Roncaglione touched as they entered turn one shooting both cars to the top of the track in front of the field, resulting in a multi skirmish. Cars involved were George Catanzano, who was second in the UEMS points, Rick Robinson, Vic Vena, and the UEMS third-place-in-points car of Shawn Shingledecker which was severely damaged and done for the night. Jonathan Taylor and the previous night’s winner, Al Cressley, was also damaged bad enough to be finished for the night, ending his shot at sweeping the weekend’s UEMS events. The top five after the lap one red flag saw Roncaglione, McKinney, Mike Potosky, Randy Hall and Evan Taylor the new top five.

Roncaglione used his inside row starting spot to his advantage on the restart. Hall went right to work on Potosky and would move into third on lap three as Todd Roncaglione kept McKinney at bay. Dave Hess Jr. would move into fifth on lap five as 2007 Calvacade champion, Rich Michael came from eleventh to sixth. Hess and Potosky would swap the fourth positions back and forth; with Hess taking control of fourth on lap eight with a turn one pass on Potosky. As lap ten clicked off the board, Hall was closing in on McKinney for second. The second yellow of the event came out on lap 14 for Darryl Charlier and Larry Kugel. Roncaglione saw his ten car length lead vanish over McKinney was erased. Hall was sitting third followed by Hess, Potosky, Rich Michael, Evan Taylor, Darren Tarabori in his v6 powered machine was eighth followed by George Catanzano who was back to ninth from restarting at the rear of the field per the first lap red flag incident.

As Roncaglione lead the halfway point of the All-Star 30, Hall was applying severe pressure to McKinney for second. Lap sixteen would see Hall take his yellow and blue #10 into the runner up position but McKinney was not backing down. DaveHess Jr. joined the duo, as it became a three wide battle for second. Roncaglione just motored away from the three car second place battle. As lap twenty clicked off, Hess was on the inside of Hall while McKinney was still on the outside of his two counter parts as the three cars battle kept the crowd on their feet. While all this was going on, Rich Michael quietly slipped into fifth behind the three car battle for second. Hall would finally come out on top for the second place battle would try to run down Roncaglione. With five to go, the twenty car length lead of Roncaglione had been trimmed down to approximately fifteen. Hess and McKinney was still battling for third with Hess having the spot.

The battle for fifth was hot also between Michael and Potosky and the six cylindermachine of Tarabori. Potosky would beat Michael to the line on lap twenty six to be scored fifth but as they entered turn one, the cars of McKinney and Hess touched with Hess spinning and doing acomplete 360 as Michael and Potosky raced by the two. Hall was tracking down Roncaglione but the laps were clicking off and the clock finally struck midnight with Todd Roncaglione capturing the 2008 UEMS sanctioned E-Series All-Star 30 event. Hall came home in the runner up position for the second consecutive night. With his pair of second place finishes over the weekend, Hall regained the UEMS point lead. Rich Michael came home a fantastic third over Potosky and McKinney. Hess would come home sixth after the lap twenty-six incident cost him a top three finish. Darren Tarabori and his v6 powered machine was seventh, with George Catanzaro in eighth. Bruce Powell and Rick Robinson rounded out the top ten.

Heat winners were: Cressley, Hess, McKinney, Ron Roncaglione and Bruce Powell. Jim Frontz and Tim Peterson were the B main winners.

The Sunday portion of the Oil Region Labor Day Classic at the Franklin, PA oval saw forty-seven Emods sign in for the All-Star 30. Fifty-one different UEMS drivers from three states entered the Tri City Speedway E-Series weekend events. Mike Potosky won the Tri City Speedway’s E-Series point title.

The United Emod Series will return to action on September 19-20 at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. The UEMS cars will run for a $1000 winner prize as part of the Pittsburgher 100 weekend. The UEMS portion of the Pittsburgher will start thirty-two cars with two provisionals each for PPMS and UEMS racers. The beautiful Venango County half-mile oval held the third and fourth event on the UEMS series 2008schedule and the fans witnessed forty-two Emods battle for twenty-four spots. Al Cressley of Pittsfield,PA won the twenty-lap UEMS – Welding Technologies E Series.

Cressley and Wilcox, PA driver Tim Peterson led the twenty-four car field to Todd Beichner’s green flag. Cressley got the jump on Peterson’s blue #07P as the field rolled into turn one. As lap one was completed Rick Robinson spun his black #34R to bring out the yellow. Cressley again beat Peterson on the restart, as Peterson would slide high, dropping out of the top five. The second yellow of the event came out on lap three for the three cars of Justin Tatlow, Larry Kugel and Jim Frontz. The green was out again and Mike Potosky the current Tri-City E Series point leader was now in second giving chase to Cressley. As lap five clicked off the board, McKean County Raceway track champion, Randy Hall moved into second as he swept past Potosky as the third yellow came out for Jonathan Taylor’s turn four spin. The top five were Cressley, Hall, Potosky, Shawn Shingledecker, and track champion Carl McKinney.

Cressley again timed Todd Beichner’s start perfectly as Hall drove under Cressley as the two dove into turn one. Cressley would get the forward drive off turn two to hold off Hall’s charge. Potosky was sitting in third waiting for the opening he needed but he would spin in turn three to bring out the caution, allowing Shawn Shingledecker to inherit third with McKinney and ninth place starting Dave Hess into fifth. Hall again tried the inside on Cressley in turn one on the restart, but the Hendrickson Motorsports #15 held off the Follman Rental Properties #10 again. Dave Hess would move into fifth on the eighth lap as Cressley’s teammate, McKinney was holding off the challenges of Hess for fourth. Hess kept working the pressure on McKinney and on lap 13, the red and white #44 of Hess would put McKinney back to fifth, but with five to go, McKinney came back and grabbed fourth from Hess. Justin Tatlow would bring out the yellow on lap 16 with aturn four spin giving Hall one more shot at Cressley in the final four laps. Cressley again just had more drive off the corner than Hall as was unable to mount a serious challenge for the win over the final few laps, but Cressley’s teammate, and track champion, McKinney got past Shingledecker on the final lap to come home third, giving car owner Mike Hendrickson a first and third place finish for the night. Shingledecker came home fourth with Hess in fifth.

Heat winners for the forty-two UEMS Emods were: Russ Dunn, Al Cressley, Dave Hess Jr., and Randy Hall. Rich Michael and Ron Roncaglione were the two B main winners. Cressley won by 1.015 seconds over Hall.

(Woodhull, NY) The Northern Tier Inc. United Late Model Series invaded the high bank 1/3 mile oval of Woodhull Raceway for the 17th annual Craig Norton Late Model Reunion Memorial. It had been over five years since Todd Andrews last raced at Woodhull, but the ULMS point leader remembered the fast way around Vern Wasson’s joint to capture the $2400 first place prize and $5400 total for the weekend in a pair of ULMS wins.

The top two Northern Tier Inc. ULMS point cars of Andrews and Bump Hedman paced the field for the 30 lap 17th annual Craig Norton Late Model Reunion Memorial presented by R&R Motorsports by virtue of their Andrews Auto Salvage Dash victories.

Hedman would get the initial jump on Andrews but the black#42 Rayburn chassis machine of Andrews would charge out of turn two into the lead. The yellow lights would come on as lap one was completed for Matt Cochran’s spin in turn 3. Andrews again shot into the lead over Hedman on the restart. Hedman would get real loose and would get drop kicked to fifth as Jeff Hoffman, Jason Dupont and Bob Close would all get by Hedman. Hedman would keep sliding backwards as Milton, PA driver, Bobby Stokes moved into the fifth position and Brent Rhebergan sent Hedman back to seventh a lap later. Close the four time defending Woodhull Late Model winner and defending two-time ULMS champion started to move to the front as he got by Dupont on lap seven as they came out of turn two. Andrews had opened up a three quarter straightaway lead over Hoffman as the black #42 was already in lap traffic. Lap eleven would see the #07Rof Rhebergan got to the top of the track to get by a pair of lap cars and the fifth place car of Stokes.

Andrews still had a comfortable lead as Hoffman, Close,Dupont were duke-ing it out for second and they had no idea that Rhebergan was on the charge on the top side of the track as the halfway point clicked off the board. Lap seventeen would see the second caution of the event as second place running Jeff Hoffman came to a stop on the backstretch with a apparent blown motor ending his fine run he had going. With the event past the halfway mark, the field restarted single file and again Andrews put his right foot down as his fellow Eldred, PA competitor, Close was on his bumper running the low line with Dupont and Rhebergan running the top behind the Eldred drivers. With ten to go, Rhebergan took his 07R Rocket chassis to the extreme top of the track to get around Dupont for third and set his eyes on Andrews and Close. The very next lap, Rhebergan swooped around Close and took second as the fans had taken notice of the fast charging Clymer, NY driver. Andrews had a half of a straight-away lead over Rhebergan with eight to go as Rhebergan continued to run the extreme high groove against the cushion and began reeling in the leader. With four to go, Rhebergan closed within three car lengths but over charged the first corner as Andrews opened his lead up to ten car lengths. It appeared it was over, but Rhebergan was determined to keep the fans interest and again he used the extreme top groove to close back in on Andrews as the white flag waved he was three car lengths behind Andrews. With Andrews running the extreme bottom and Rhebergan on the extreme top the duo charged down the back stretch and the lead was down to two car lengths as Andrews shot out of turn four, Rhebergan rocketed out of the corner as well to bring the fans to their feet only to get nipped by five feet. Close saw his four straight Woodhull wins treak snapped but came home a solid third behind Andrews and Rhebergan. Dupont was fourth followed by Bobby Stokes,Hedman, Nick Loffredo, Al Brewer, Chad Hollenbeck and Harry Miller rounded out the top ten.

In victory lane, Andrews thanked his crew for their fine work as they changed cars after hot laps. The thought process was the winning machine would be a better suited for the track conditions after the rain shower that hit the track around 6PM. Obviously it was right decision as Todd Andrews went home with $2400 in his pocket and a total $5400 in the two ULMS events over the weekend. With the Woodhull event being a double points event on the ULMS schedule, Andrews has a very comfortable lead heading into the final three events of the year.

Jeff Hoffman won the four lap Maple City Dodge Race of Champions Dash for the past winners of this annual event. The four car dash saw Bob Close, Al Brewer,Andrews and Hoffman starting the event in that order. Hoffman won the RoC Dash over Andrews, Close and Brewer.

The Northern Tier Inc. ULMS late models will be off till September 26-27 when they return to McKean County Raceway for the $12,000 Fall Classic weekend before ending the year at Mercer Raceway Park the following weekend.

(E. Smethport, PA) The Northern Tier Inc. United Late Model Series returned to McKean County Raceway for the first time since last years season ending Fall Classic for the 4th Annual Stephanie Eckl Memorial. ULMS point leader, Todd Andrews of Eldred, PA took the $3000 top prize back home for his third Eckl Memorial win.

The Northern Tier Inc. ULMS late models rolled onto the facility for the 30 lap Stephanie Eckl Memorial with 2007 ULMS Rookie of Year driver,Mike Knight and David Scott on the front row by virtue of their Andrews Auto Salvage Dash wins. As the twenty-six car field roared out of turn four to take Tony Van Pelt’s green flag, Knight shot into the lead over Scott. Fourth place starter Darrell Bossard slid high in turn two to lose a few positions on the opening lap as Brent Rhebergan, Andrews and seventh place starter, Bump Hedman were your top five after the first lap.

The first yellow of the event came out for Chris Farrell’s spin on lap 5. Knight shot back in front on the restart, as Andrews would swoop from fourth to second as Dick Barton entered the top five. Knight and Andrews would pull away from the field, as the two cars seemed evenly matched. As the leaders ran nose to tail at the halfway mark they entered lap traffic, as the top five was still Knight, Andrews, Scott, Rhebergan, Barton and Bob Close in sixth. Heavy lap traffic was now a factor as the crowd was on their feet as Knight and Andrews would swap lanes weaving thru traffic and on lap twenty-one, Andrews would stick his black #42 Rayburn in the middle of a three wide traffic jam in turn three to sweep by Knight to take the lead. Knight came charging back as he looked for the high side in turn one to try to grab the lead back, but Andrews would use the low line to his advantage. The second yellow came out on lap twenty-three as third place running David Scott sat sideways in turn one. Seventh place running, Luke Hoffner would come to a stop as well under the yellow as he would need a push into the pits and Scott would park the Slowride #3 as well. With seven laps remaining the crowd rose to their feet knowing they were going to see the top two duo give them a sprint for the win. Andrews would charge down the front chute on the restart and took the low line, Knight would go to the top and pulled beside Andrews momentarily as the crowd cheered, but Andrews would use the forward bite off the bottom to pull ahead down the backstretch.

Knight wasn’t going to give up and went to the top again in turns three and four. Greg Oakes would move into third pass Rhebergan as Bob Close came out of nowhere to find himself in fifth with five to go. Barton would get by Close with four to go for fourth as Rhebergan slipped to sixth. Andrews had now gotten a three car length lead over Knight as Knight would move to the bottom of the track and on the final lap would charge deep into turn three to close in within a car length as the crowd rose to their feet but Andrew would charge out of four with Knight behind him at the finish. Greg Oakes came home with a fantastic third, Dick Barton was fourth followed by Close, Rhebergan, Bossard,Dave Hess, Bump Hedman and Jeff Hoffman rounded out the top ten.

With the win, Andrews increased his point lead over Bump Hedman and Brent Rhebergan going into the Craig Norton Woodhull Late Model Reunion. Andrews win was his third Eckl Memorial win as last year he came from twelfth to win. This was Andrews fourth career Northern Tier Incorporated ULMS win, all coming at MCR. Thirty Northern Tier Inc. ULMS late models were on hand from,Pennsylvania, New York and Quebec, Canada.

The Northern Tier Incorporated ULMS Late Models will be off till the end of September when they return to MCR for the 3rd annual MCR Fall Classic highlighted by the $12,000 to win Priority Care RaceFAN50. The final ULMS event is scheduled for Saturday, October 4th at Mercer Raceway Park.

E. Smethport, PA The Northern Tier Inc. United Late Model Series will return to McKean County Raceway for the first time since last season’s season ending Fall Classic. On Thursday, July 31, the best dirt late model stars in the region will invade the 3/8 mile fairgrounds oval for the 4th annual Stephanie Eckl Memorial that will pay $3000 to win and the winner will be a guranteed starter for both the ULMS Woodhull Raceway event and the Priority Care RaceFAN 50 at MCR . This will be the super late models only chance to grace the MCR oval before the late September Fall Classic weekend.

Last year, Todd Andrews won his second Eckl Memorial as he came from the twelfth place starting spot on the grid to pass Dutch Davies on lap twenty-five to capture the top prize for the second time in three years. Todd is currently the ULMS point leader heading into the special Thursday night event at MCR. Rob Blair of Titusville, PA won this event two years ago as he also came from twelfth place on the field, but it took him thirty-nine and half laps to lead the final half lap for his Eckl Memorial win. Mr. Blair is expected at this time to use this event as a tune up to defend his Priority Care RaceFAN 50 title at the Fall Classic.

Bob Close is the two-time defending ULMS champion. Two years ago, he came so close to winning the race in 2006. This race is very special to Close and the #04 team as it is in memory of Stephanie Eckl, daughter of team member Greg Eckl. Stephanie was killed in automobile accident in November of 2004 and was an avid dirt late model fan and obviously a Bob Close fan. The Eckl family has raised money each year to place into the purse and this year is no different.

Race fans can expect to see the top regional drivers such as Ron Davies, Dutch Davies, Brent Rhebergan, Darrell Bossard, Chad Valone, Luke Hoffner, Al Brewer, Boom Briggs, David Scott, Bump Hedman, Greg Oakes, Jason Dupont and many more will be setting their GPS systems for McKean County Raceway on Thursday, July 31.

The ULMS teams will pull their drawing spots for the qualifying heat events and the top twelve qualifiers will re-draw for a pair of Andrews Auto Salvage Dashes to determine first six rows. So far in the two ULMS events this season the winner has come from position number two and position number twelve in the starting lineup. Race teams and fans can expect the Northern Tier Inc. ULMS late models to be one of the first feature events of the evening. With the winner receiving a cool three grand and guranteed starting spots for both the $2400 to win Craig Norton Memorial at Woodhull Raceway two days later and for the 3rd annual $12,000 to win Priority Care RaceFAN 50 during the MCR Fall Classic, there may be a few surprises showing up!

Gates open at 4PM, ULMS pill table closes at 630PM and driver meeting is immediately at 630PM. Hot laps will be at approximately 645PM and racing is at 7PM. Adult admission is $14, Sr Citizen (62+) $11, Youth (11-16) $6, and children under 10 are free. The family pack of two adults and up to 4 children is $28. Pit gate fee is $25. ULMS registration is $20 for all late model entries.

With the great work by Greg Eckl and the entire Eckl Family .. the payout for the 4th annual Stephanie Eckl Memorial is as follows for JULY 31 at McKean Co. Raceway:

After the double feature start of the 2008 Northern Tier ULMS Late Model Series season at Little Valley Speedway, the series moves on to two more events on Thursday, July 31 at McKean County Raceway paying $3000 to win and on Saturday, August 2 at Woodhull Raceway featuring a $2400 to win event. What a way to end and start off a new month!

On Thursday, July 31, the 4th annual Stephanie Eckl Memorial will be highlight card for the Northern Tier Inc. ULMS Late Model Series as it makes its first appearance of the year at McKean County Raceway. This event was to pay a minimum of $2000 to win, but the Eckl family has picked up extra funding to make this 30 lap event a $3000 to win event with a minimum of $200 to start. Rob Blair and Todd Andrews have won this event with Andrews winning the inaugural event and last year’s edition. Both Blair and Andrews have won the past two years from the twelfth place starting spot on the grid. In 2006, the event drew thirty-six entries with Blair winning it on the last lap.

Two days later, the Northern Tier Inc. ULMS Late Models head for the high bank 1/3 oval of Woodhull Raceway in Woodhull, NY. The 17th annual ‘Craig Norton Memorial’ Late Model Reunion presented by R&R Motorsports will pay $2400 to win and $300 to start! This year’s event is in memory of Shinglehouse, PA native, Craig Norton. Craig was a veteran late model driver in the late 70s and early 80s at Woodhull Raceway. He passed away last month from cancer. In memory of Craig and his familiar yellow #24x machine, this years edition will pay $2400 to win and with the help from the Norton family a significant extra amount of money has been placed throughout the field from last to first.

Defending ULMS champion, Bob Close has dominated this race the past few years. He will no doubt have this event circled on the calendar. The current Northern Tier Inc. ULMS points has former Woodhull Reunion winner and defending Eckl Memorial winner Todd Andrews on top of the point chart with his fine finishes at Little Valley. He is two points ahead of Warren, PA driver, Dutch Davies and six points ahead of Sugar Grove, PA driver, Bump Hedman, who picked up his biggest win of his career at Little Valley. Fans at both events should expect to see some of the top regions drivers including, Ron Davies, Brent Rhebergan, David Scott, Jason Dupont, Luke Hoffner, Kirk Bradley, Dick Barton, Chris Farrell, Dan Stone, Ed Connor, Doug Ricotta, Al Brewer, Dave Zona and others.
